Immediacy

May 1, 2023

Personally, I love circus!
The reason?

FLOW

When I'm playing with my props, I am wholly focused on the present and what's happening right in front of me...

...that's what you want to achieve as standard in your travels (at least most of the time).

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it!

A fast-disappearing skill in the modern world, immediacy is consummately important if you want to get the most out of your travel. You need to be present and absorb every little moment that you can while you have the chance, you may never make it back to the wondrous places you visit again, so take the opportunity to enjoy them now.

Be IN the moment!

LIVE for the now!

Attention is truly THE commodity of the modern age…

Don’t give it away thoughtlessly!

With markets literally exploding to try and get you to look at what they’re selling, it can be so easy to become distracted by things that take you away from the present moment.

… Well I ain’t buying It, and neither should you!

When I started school, my mum told me to “Be a Sponge” and soak up everything I can there. She said the same thing when I left to go on my first solo overseas trip. It’s easy when you’re a kid, everything is new and enthralling.

As you grow and gather responsibilities and ambitions and friends and family and obligations and notifications and…

…and the baggage ever grows.

Pulling you away from the appreciation of what’s right in front of you, what you’re doing… right now.

Travel is the ultimate freedom.

Let it free you to be present as you journey your way through the world. It is only then that you can let go the baggage of life, enabling you to enjoy a perfect sunset,

make new friends, or stumble into an amazing opportunity.

If you practice immediacy you will form great lasting memories. Ones that will help shape your future.

Challenge: Put the devices away

With the world (read: internet) at our fingertips, it’s very easy to get lost in our devices. Try and see if you can go a whole day without touching your devices. Liberate yourself from all the responsibilities that go along with interacting with them. Don’t answer emails, don’t post on Facebook, Insta, Tik Tok or any other socials, don’t message your friends who aren’t there, don’t even take photos (unless you really want them FOR YOU).

Relish every interaction with every person you meet because that moment will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

Really BE in the place that you ARE.
